DVC just got stricter with renting points—Here’s the deal

If you’re a Disney Vacation Club member who sometimes rents out your points (or has thought about it), you’ll want to hear this: DVC is officially cracking down on commercial rentals, and the new rules are already live.

Starting June 2025, when you book a stay through the member site, there’s a new checkbox where you have to confirm that your reservation is for personal use only. Sounds simple—but it’s part of a bigger shift. Disney also updated the fine print to say they can now decide whether your booking looks personal or, well... a little too commercial.

The bottom line: it’s totally fine to book for yourself or even let friends and family use your points occasionally. What Disney’s trying to stop is people who regularly rent out their points for profit. If they think you’re treating DVC like a side hustle, they can cancel your reservation.

Why now? A lot of members (us included—this has been an issue for years) have been frustrated about not being able to book their favorite resorts—especially during busy seasons. And Disney’s pointing the finger at the rise in third-party point rentals for making that worse.

So what does this mean for you? If you’re casually renting use your points, you’re probably fine. But if you have thousands of points and are listing them like it’s your part-time job, you might want to rethink your strategy.
